THE PLAY

ORDET (THE WORD) is the story of a miracle. Two religious communities with opposite beliefs are confronted with death, then resurrection. ORDET (THE WORD) is not a “religious” play. It is a metaphysical thriller. An experience. An in-between world. It is a strange theatrical artifact, which raises the question of faith, the power of life, the relationship between the individual and the group. ORDET (THE WORD)does not assert anything but raises doubts, unravels softly. The play was adapted for the screen by Dreyer in 1954. In this new translation of Marie Darrieussecq, the play has been created for the first time in France.

Created within the Avignon Festival 2008, ORDET (THE WORD) opened the first season of the Centre Dramatique National Orléans/Loiret/Centre, headed by Arthur Nauzyciel since June 2007. It gathers major French actors (Pascal Greggory, Jean-Marie Winling, Xavier Gallais…), artists from various backgrounds and disciplines (stage director and set designer Eric Vigner, fashion designer José Lévy, medievalist composer Marcel Pérès, dancer Damien Jalet) and the associated artists of the CDN (Marie Darrieussecq, Denis Lachaud and Benoit Giros).
