THE PLAY
Padua, 1549. Under the threat of Angelo, a man of power, a jealous husband obsessed with adultery, starts an amorous chase in which each lover wants to both escape from and save the other. In this romantic drama by Victor Hugo, tyranny is not so much about love as it is about desire.
Director CH (DANS PARIS, LES CHANSONS D’AMOUR) picked for this production, which opened at the 2009 Avignon Festival, ANGELO, TYRAN DE PADOUE, a play-manifesto of an epic scale, which shares with his latest feature film LA BELLE PERSONNE (adapted from the Madame de la Fayette novel LA PRINCESSE DE CLEVES) a common theme: the impact of authority on women. This transition from the screen to the stage also features the presence of actresses Clotilde Hesme and Emmanuelle Devos.
