She writes for artists like Annette Messager, Louise Bourgeois or Jürgen Teller. She is also a psychoanalyst. The translation of ORDET (THE WORD) is Marie Darrieussecq's first work for the theatre.

A staged reading of her novel TOM IS DEAD was directed by Arthur Nauzyciel at the 2007 Avignon Festival. She wrote her first play for him, THE SEA MUSEUM. It was premiered at the National Theatre of Iceland (Reykjavik) in March 2009.
