The Play
The ghost of Hamlet’s father reveals the truth about his death: his own brother, Claudius, has poisoned him to usurp the throne. The young prince swears vengeance… A story of murders, love and hate, of feigned madness and real ravings. In short, the story of a family.
After the successful performances of IDIOT! based on Dostoyevsky at the CDN in 2009, the stage director Vincent Macaigne is back with his reinvented version of HAMLET, Shakespeare’s most famous play. Surrounded by a group of loyal actors, he creates a space of liberty in which Hamlet’s violence may explode. It is a character in search of truth and the Absolute. AT LEAST I WILL HAVE LEFT A BEAUTIFUL CORPSE is a calling for revolt. Vincent Macaigne offers a outrageous theatre full of outbursts and excess, it is funny and tragic, inventive, sometimes extreme, but its dazzling images are staggering with appropriateness,.
The CDN accompanies Vincent Macaigne’s work since the coproduction of IDIOT! in 2009. The director and his team have rehearsed AT LEAST I WILL HAVE LEFT A BEAUTIFUL CORPSE during a residence in Orléans before its creation at the Avignon Festival.
