THE PLAY
Mattis, a simple mind, lives with his older sister on a farm in Norway. One morning, he goes fishing on a lake, all alone. But the boat is leaking and a struggle with death begins.
Claude Régy is one the France's greatest stage directors. He studied dramatic art with Charles Dullin and directed his first play in 1952. Very soon, he moved away from psychology and naturalism and explored other forms of representation while discovering writers such as Marguerite Duras, Nathalie Sarraute, Peter Handke, Botho Strauss, Jon Fosse, Sarah Kane and working with actors such as Michel Bouquet, Delphine Seyrig, Jeanne Moreau, Bulle Ogier, Valérie Dréville, Isabelle Huppert, Jean-Quentin Châtelain and today with young Laurent Cazanave.
His theatre is of great beauty and, neglecting the narrative codes, commits the audience to a poetic and sensorial experience in which the certainties of the nature of reality are collapsing.
Claude Régy stages a chapter of the novel THE BIRDS by Norwegian author Tarjei Vesaas and reveals the beauty of young Mattis’ universe. “Sometimes, through the mist, another quality of light appears”.
The CDN is glad to welcome Claude Régy for the first time in Orléans and will organize events around his work as a stage director.
