LA PIÈCE

Anna Petrovna, a rich young widow, is entertaining a small circle during the summer. The schoolteacher Platanov is one of the members of this provincial company. He is in rebellion against society, a cynical seducer, tired of living, but in the end just a mediocre Don Juan.

Living in Tours, the stage director Alexis Armengol seizes with his company Théâtre à cru the monster play, uncompleted, written by Chekhov at the age of 18. This squib jotted down by the Russian playwright resounds of a credo carried by the youth of every deleterious society in which it is denied, compromised, stripped of its identity and its creative strength. Between revolution and resignation, the world’s conquest and the quest of the meaning of life, PLATONIOV MAIS… is inscribed in our present. Platonov becomes the mirror of a whole generation and its uncertainties. The performance is electric, full of humour and carried away by the energy of celebrating and the summer heat.

The company Théâtre à cru has rehearsed this play during a residence at the CDN Orléans/Loiret/Centre in autumn 2010.
