THE PLAY

For all of his life in the theatre, author and director Jean-Luc Lagarce, who died of AIDS in 1995, kept a diary. He wrote down his doubts, his readings, the films and shows he saw, his love affairs and the meaning of his work. He shares the struggle that was his life, the physical and moral resilience he always demonstrated while fighting against the disease and mediocrity.

The words of Jean-Luc Lagarce, the most performed author in France today (NOUS, LES HEROS, JUSTE LA FIN DU MONDE, LES PRETENDANTS) are part of our history, have a theatrical life of their own and also interrogate the inhumanity in the world, the necessity of the artist and his difficulty of being. Directed by François Berreur, Lagarce’s former close collaborator, EBAUCHE D’UN PORTRAIT is a theatrical homage of great power, in which an impressing Laurent Poitrenaux brings Jean-Luc Lagarce back to life.
